Don’t Put Away That Shovel! Snow Coming To Capital Region Friday?
Could the Capital Region get a blast of winter weather this week? Yes! According to Accuweather.com the temps will be dropping as the week continues and those April showers could turn to snow by Thursday night into Friday.
The next storm to arrive in the Northeast Thursday into Friday will be the same one responsible for bringing a return to snowy, wintry weather in the northern plains early in the week, As it arrives in the Northeast, it will still have enough cold air with it to bring some spring snow, especially at higher elevations," - AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Dombek
So how much will we get? Depends who you ask. Accuweather predicts several inches for parts of the Catskills, Adirondacks and Berkshires. As much as 15 inches in high elevations!
Weather.gov has a much more pleasant forecast for the Capital Region as of Tuesday afternoon with all totals under 1 inch. Here are some predictions:
- Glens Falls - 3/4 inch
- Schenectady - 1/2 inch
- Mechanicville - 3/4 inch
- Amsterdam - 3/4 inch
For what it's worth Albany averages 2.1 inches of snow in April so let's hope this is just the last taste of a season I am ready to say goodbye to. On April 9, 2000, a spring snowstorm dumped 13.3 inches of snow on Albany. Spectrum News recalls the April Fools Day Nor'easter of 1997.
That storm began on March 31 and ended on April 1, 1997. At first it was just rain. That turned to snow and started to dump snow on the Capital Region. Like 1-2 inches per hour kind of dumping. Tens of thousands of homes without power, Winds up to 30 to 50 miles per hour also aided in widespread tree damage. In the end, Albany got hit with 15 inches.
