Downtown Troy was the scene for a 100 year celebration of the Greater Capital Region YWCA on Tuesday.

According to The Record (Troy, NY), a ribbon cutting was part of the ceremony Tuesday to mark the 100th celebration of the YWCA in Troy. The doors to the building at 21 First St. first opened on May 8, 1918 providing a safe and affordable environment and services for women and children. The building has housed thousands ever since, helping them start on a path for positive change. "Today our beautiful building in the historic district of the city of Troy turns 100 years old," said YWCA of the Greater Capital Region Executive Director Daquetta Jones. She went on to say how the organization is now one of the largest providers of supportive housing to women that would otherwise be homeless of living in substandard housing.

Congrats to the YWCA in Troy on this giant milestone. Get more info on the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region here.
