I think I know a few people that will be getting a bottle of locally distilled whiskey this holiday season.

One of my favorite gifts to give or things to bring when I'm visiting friends and family is something local from the Capital Region. While there are a lot of really awesome products coming out of the Capital Region in my circle you can't go wrong with a bottle or 6 pack of local libations. Especially when they can't be purchased outside of the area.

Well, whether you are looking for a gift or just happen to enjoy you some whiskey get ready for a new option in town. One fairly new local distillery just bottled their first batch of whiskey that is now available for purchase.

According to the Daily Gazette Schenectady Distilling Co. has just finished labeling and bottling their first whisky called Gateway American Whiskey that is now available for purchase for $39 for a 750 ml bottle. The whiskey is available only at the distillery located at 3304 Amsterdam Road in Glenville, for now. The goal is to roll out to local stores and distributors gradually.

However, the tasting room seems pretty awesome because they serve a variety of craft beverages made in New York exclusively and has been even before their own brands were available. Actually be early December it's possible you could have two options to choose from as their aging Black Rock Bourbon should be about ready for bottling by then.

Schenectady Distilling Co.'s whole process is hyper local if you would like to read more about them and their product you can do so by clicking here.
