There’s been a lot of talk recently about legalizing recreational marijuana in New York.  However, one major group is speaking out about it.

The Times Union recently posted about the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police speaking out about legalizing marijuana, and their concerns.  According to the Times, the Association represents over 500 police chiefs and other executives, and they mentioned some of their major concerns.

For starters, the Times Union noted that they were concerned about the federal classification of marijuana, as a “schedule 1” drug.  Basically, this says marijuana has no medical value and is highly addictive. They also reported on concerns about road safety, and how driving fatalities have increased in Colorado since marijuana was legalized.  On top of that, there were concerns mentioned about the impact of enforcement changes upon the police system even including the impact to trained dogs.  Basically, they suggested more time for research and studies before marijuana gets legalized.

I have to say, this isn’t shocking to me at all about who spoke out and what they reported as concerns.  What are your thoughts?
