We all know the problem areas in the Capital Region. But in reality, crime looks to be dipping. That's not a bad thing at all!

NYUP recently published an article giving statistics of crime rates throughout each of New York's 62 counties. I was shocked to see that our highest ranked county came in at number 14. That hat is worn by Albany County. I began looking at the numbers though and they all seem to be falling.

So here is how NYUP got to their statistic,

Using the latest data (2017) we've compared crime counts for all index crimes -- including violent crimes like murder and property crimes like burglary -- to rank every NY county by how much crime rose, or fell, from the previous year. - NYUP

  • Albany County: -0.1%
  • Schenectady County: -2.3%
  • Saratoga County: -2.7%
  • Rensselaer County: -4.0%
  • Fulton County: -8.3%
  • Montgomery County: -8.3%
  • Warren County: -10.2%
  • Washington County: -13.5%
  • Schoharie County: -18.4%

If you noticed, Columbia County isn't on that list. They actually are the bad egg of the Capital Region. They ranked number 2 in the entire state for crime rate growth. They are at -17.1%
