The new longer school hours will impact all grade levels in the Cohoes School District.

Man, I'm sure the kids aren't too excited about getting some more time added to their daily learning schedule but I feel like an extra half hour or so of school couldn't hurt them.

The Cohoes Board of Education and The Cohoes Teachers Association have come to an agreement to lengthen the time children re spent in school by a vote of 175 to 23. According to to the TU the length of the school days in Cohoes hasn't changed in more than 50 years and "With increased curricular requirements, teachers need additional time to effectively teach the standards."

Under the new agreement good through the 2020-21 school year, the elementary school day will be lengthened by 35 minutes, utilizing the additional time to focus on daily lessons in science and social studies. The middle school day will increase by 22 minutes and the high school by 20 minutes. The agreement also gives teachers a 2 percents increase in their yearly salary for their time.
