Next week a gathering of natural red heads will come together in Troy for the 5th Annual 'Night of the Walking Red'...

I have to admit when I first heard about the 'Night of the Walking Red' I wasn't sure if it was a joke event or not. However, as I investigated a little I learned that it is indeed an actual event, that just so happened to come about from a joke...

Apparently right here in the Capital Region there is a group called the League of Extraordinary Redheads who put on this event called the Night of the Walking Red and according to the Troy Record it all began as a kind of a joke between a group of friends which quickly turned into something a bit bigger than they all anticipated. I think the original purpose of the LoER (League of Extraordinary Redheads) was to get together and have a few a adult beverages with some friends who happened to be redheads but it has now turned into a full blown club that has made it on to Buzzfeed listicles of ' Best Redheaded Gatherings' and is getting requests from multiple other states to open their own chapters! The whole club seems pretty awesome and you can learn all about them by checking out their hilarious website HERE.

However, we are here to talk about the Night of the Walking Red "A fall tradition where hundreds of naturally red-haired people gather to toast the season when the colors of the world turn to match their own" and it just so happens to be going down next Wednesday, October 4th at Ryan's Wake in Troy from 5:00 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. where they have several fun festivities planned:

The fiery festivities feature an upstate New York autumnal rite known as the “Toast of Coppertops,” during which members of The League of Extraordinary Red Heads will raise glasses of Ithaca Beer Co. Country Pumpkin Ale. As is their custom, the League will also discuss the items on their concise meeting agenda: “1) Us. 2) Them.” Special entertainment and more details to be announced son.

If you, like myself, are not blessed with fiery red hair but are interested in checking out the Night of the Walking Red it would appear as though this group is all inclusive as the event invite says "This is event is free and open to all." However, I would probably try to talk a ginger friend into chaperoning you. You know, just in case.
