‘War Dogs’ Trailer: Miles Teller and Jonah Hill are the New Lords of War
The film is about to real guys, David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli (played by Miles Teller and Jonah Hill, respectively) who became unlikely arms dealers in the late-2000s, supplying weapons to fighters in Afghanistan. Here’s the official synopsis:
Based on a true story, War Dogs follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami Beach during the Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.
The movie does look like a very unusual intersection between crazy real-world events and Todd Phillips’ fictional world of macho debauchery. (Hangover star Bradley Cooper even shows up in a supporting role.) The results kind of remind me of Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain; all young dudes with big dreams and a total lack of morals caught up in this story that would be impossible to believe if it hadn’t actually happened. War Dogs opens in theaters on August 19.
