This past week I went to see the movie “Love, Simon.” One of the best parts of the movie? The soundtrack! Bleacher, the 1975, Troye Sivan. The music literally made the movie worth every penny that I spent. Dancing in the theater aside, I got to thinking about some other movies that have pretty amazing Alt Rock soundtracks.

Here’s my Top 5! If yours didn’t make the list, tell us what it is and why!

Garden State: No Alt- or Indie-Rock list is complete without this soundtrack. Leaving it off would just be pure blasphemy. The Shins, Coldplay, Frou Frou, Thievery Corporation, and a whole ton of melancholy feelings. This soundtrack made as much of an impact as the movie did.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon: When I first watched this movie, all I could think was “Damnit! They ripped off all of the music I love!” Death Cab For Cutie, Bon Iver, St Vincent, Band of Skulls, Thom Yorke. I mean seriously. SERIOUSLY! I don’t care if you like the movies or not- could there be a better alt rock soundtrack?
Cruel Intentions: Blur, Fatboy Slim, Marcy Playground, the Verve, to name just a few of the power players on this soundtrack. This soundtrack is the stuff alt rock dreams are made of, with a good mix of bands that creates an overall awesome choice in music.
Paper Towns: Who cares if you’ve ever seen the movie The soundtrack is what you want! Vance Joy, Vampire Weekend, HAIM, Grouplove, and the War on Drugs. *Mind Blown* If you don’t have this soundtrack, get it. And then listen to it on repeat.
The Crow: A throwback for those who love the heavier side of Alt Rock. By heavier, I mean Violent Femmes, Stone Temple Pilots, the Cure, and Rage Against the Machine. This soundtrack will give you all of the dark, heavy alternative feels, and you’ll love every minute of it.
