Unemployment figures are in and the Capital Region had more people without jobs this year than last, according to the Times Union.

While the total labor force (number of people employed or unemployed but looking for work) grew to 438,900 people in May, up from 436,400 in April, May's reported number was the lowest it has been for that month since 2001, according to the TU.

The jobless rate in the Capital Region is now 5.1 percent.

The unemployment report does not make clear how many people have simply stopped looking for a job, have retired, or have moved out of the area.
