Amy Adams Meets the Visitors in New Clips From ‘Arrival’
Anticipation for Arrival to, well, arrive is pretty high, with several cinephiles eager to experience the latest effort from Denis Villeneuve — the director of last year’s exquisitely intense Sicario. If you’re feeling particularly anxious to see more from the new sci-fi drama, Sony has released two new clips that expand upon a couple of scenes from the trailer, in which Amy Adams’ expert linguist first meets our unearthly visitors.
The Playlist debuted the new clips over on Facebook, but it’s understandable if you’d rather not watch them. I know several people who have been avoiding the trailers entirely to maintain a bit of mystery, but if you’re eager for a new sneak peek at Arrival, these clips are fairly interesting and don’t seem to give much away; mostly, they’re just slightly longer versions of two scenes featured in the trailers:
Both clips focus on Amy Adams’ Louise Banks, a linguist hired by the government to help communicate with extraterrestrials after they mysteriously arrive on Earth. She’s joined by a skilled mathematician named Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner), US Army Colonel Weber (Forest Whitaker) and Agent Halpern (Michael Stuhlbarg):
ARRIVAL is a provocative science fiction thriller from acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve (SICARIO, PRISONERS). When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team — lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) — are brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers — and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.
Villeneuve’s latest premiered at the Venice film festival this week, and the early reviews are mostly positive — perhaps unsurprisingly, given the quality of the director’s previous efforts.
