With all focus on transgender people, I wasn't surprised to hear this. Ryan Cassata is a transgender person who tried out for 'American Idol' last year and was eventually rejected because he said he was told he wasn't "contemporary enough." According to him, he was contacted by the show to try out again and the reason was he is a transgender person and that is a hot topic right now. Here is his response to 'American Idol:'

Ryan posted this note on his YouTube page:

This is an open letter to American Idol casting directors about why I do not want to come on the show. I feel that singers who happen to be transgender are being targeted for AI's ratings so the show could make a larger profit. Aside from that, there is a lot of ignorance from the casting department in sexist, racist, transphobic and dehumanizing ways. Please spread the word!!!
