5 Things To Do In The Capital Region To Get You Into The Holiday Spirit
If you are felling like it is time to start getting festive here is a list of cool things to do in the Capital Region that are sure to put you in the holiday mindset...
It wouldn't be the Holiday Season without taking a drive through the Capital Holiday Lights in Albany's Washington Park.
Take a couple of laps around the rink at the Empire State Plaza's "Empire Skate Plaza"
Watch a performance of "It's A Wonderful Life" at Proctors in Schenectady done from the prospective of a group of old time radio employees trying to make sure the "show goes on" when the professional voice actors can't make it to the radio station. **Editors Note** This performance is pretty high on my list and I'm pretty sure it's not just because I'm a radio nerd. I love listening to the old time radio shows on long trips and to see one done live sounds like it will be amazing! The description verbiage says that,
Each actor bounces swiftly from character to character, sometimes playing opposite themselves in the same scene. At the same time, the actors produce all of the sound effects live on stage, using old-fashioned techniques and simple household objects.
How cool is that?!?!
Have Breakfast with Santa! I know this is mostly for the benefit of the kids however, Dave and Buster's is hosting a breakfast that includes food, activities, games, and a photo with Santa and since it's Dave and Busters I'm pretty sure they offer a little something for the parents as well.
Check out some great holiday films like A Christmas Story, A Charlie Brown Christmas, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and more on the BIG screen at the Palace Theatre in Albany.
***BONUS*** If you really want to get in the holiday spirit you can take a drive out to the Altamont Vineyard and Winery and check out Christmas Land! This place has every Christmas activity you could possibly need all in one spot. With carolers, light displays, pictures with Santa Claus, visits by Ms. Claus, Santa's helpers engaging kids in many activities, lots of artisans and merchants selling unique Christmas gifts, plenty of food, hot chocolate, Christmas cookies and much more.
